BikeBox, the award-winning bicycle transportation solution, understands the challenge of bicycle travel and provides ARWS teams with the perfect way to travel with their bikes.
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – An adventure racing along the journey on foot, bike and kayak is the challenge for teams as they enter one of the Adventure Racing World Series Qualification events held in exotic locations around the world each year.
Getting to the starting line can be quite stressful as teams have to travel by plane, train, bus, and vehicle with their mountain bikes and gear to attend these week-long events.
BikeBox, the award-winning bicycle transportation solution, understands the challenge of bicycle travel and provides ARWS teams with the perfect way to travel with their bikes.
“If you fly by bike, you will often have to transport bikes and boxes in regular-sized vehicles when you arrive. There is also the challenge of storing boxes and you need to make sure your expensive bike is protected in transit,” explains Christine Collins, owner of the BikeBox Company and inventor of this Flagship product.
The best products deliver solutions, and BikeBox does this through clever, thoughtful design elements drawn from Christine’s extensive travel and racing experience and that of her husband, adventurous racer John Collins. BikeBox is affordable, reusable, and offers solutions to every problem you encounter on the journey from home to racing – and back again.
Made of high density polypropylene, BikeBox is shockproof and waterproof. Weighing in at just eight kilograms, there is still enough standard luggage to accommodate the weight of the bike and its accessories. Most importantly, the BikeBox folds in on itself to reduce storage space by 80% of its combined size. This makes it possible to fit the mini BikeBox in a rental car and store it out of the way in a hotel room, friend’s house, or garage.
BikeBox also offers guards to protect your cassette, crank, rear derailleur, skewers and wheel hubs as well as a Box-in-a-Box for cycling accessories.
In adventure racing, four people from each team travel with bicycle boxes and equipment, adding to the challenge of transporting vehicles. During the event, their bikes are also transported – in bike boxes – by the race organisation.
Stefan Müller is the Course and Logistics Director for Expedition Africa, host of the 2023 Adventure Racing World Championships. With more than 100 teams attending the event, Stefan’s job includes logistical plans for transporting more than 400 bike boxes – and more than 200 resupply boxes – between remote transition zones .
Once delivered to the move, bike boxes may wait more than 24 hours for their team to arrive. Not all shifts have secret storage, so bike boxes need to be able to withstand rain and dew. Rugged, sturdy and waterproof, the BikeBox protects contents in all conditions.
“From the logistical side of the event, transporting bikes is a huge responsibility,” says Stefan.
“We travel off-road in a high-pressure racing environment where loading and unloading occurs daily throughout the course of the event. We take care to prevent damage to expensive equipment and transport bikes in a timely manner. When teams use a BikeBox, we know the contents are well protected and safe to transport. No The bottom ‘falls off’ when we lift them up, and the waterproof box will protect the contents if we deliver the boxes into an open field. That’s very reassuring for us.”
Stefan explains that the design of the BikeBox includes strategically placed cutouts for the handles that make lifting, moving, and packing the boxes simple. “Being able to hold the boxes and maneuver them easily is important and makes the volunteers’ work a lot easier,” he adds.
Sustainability is important to BikeBox in its mission to reduce waste and carbon emissions from product production to end-of-life. The BikeBox can be reused for over 15 outdoor rides and eventually the polypropylene can be recycled into new products.
